Is it trauma or intuition?
Thirty years reading bodies under threat, on the mat and on the table.
Kaiden Shihan Kogyoku, KoKoDo JuJutsu, 5th Dan. One of two women in the world to hold Kogyoku, the first outside Japan. Certified Yoga Therapist and Shiatsu Practitioner, teaching since 1997. Author of Gut Punch.
Why this guest
Healing is self-defence.
Knowing who, what, when and how people, places and things get access to you. That’s a safety state of mind. That’s peak living.
Diane teaches personal protection for the whole of life, not just the street. Thirty years on the mat taught her how threat moves. Thirty years on the table taught her what it leaves behind.
Most trauma conversations stop at the wound. Most self-defence training stops at the groin shot. Her work is the intersection of both.
For your show
Episode angles
Every angle lands in real life. The mat and the table are where I learned it.
Why “Trust Your Gut” Is Bad Advice for a Nervous System Still in Survival
Your gut might be an old alarm. How to test the signal before you follow it.
What a Trauma-Informed Dojo Would Actually Look Like
Most aren’t. Thirty years of teaching people to fight, and what I’d change on every mat.
You Are Allowed to Change Your Mind About Who Touches You
Consent isn’t a one-time yes. In life, on the mat or on the table, it gets asked again every time.
When Setting a Boundary Feels Like Self-Betrayal
Learn the number one reason boundaries are hard, how to handle the pushback, and how to navigate back to your yes or no.
Avoidance Can Be a Skill
Developing situational awareness is key to frictionless living. Staying out of trouble is easier than getting out of trouble.
What a Safety State of Mind Actually Is
Not calm. Not relaxed. Something you train, the same way you train a guard.
